Richard Sekesan - Movement Based Personal Training

Richard is inspired to help others wake up each day to achieve personal breakthroughs in their lives through better movement. Richard’s passion is to inspire people to MOVE.

During the COVID-19 period Richard is coaching via Zoom Virtual Coaching Online and Outdoor 1:1 PT in Sth Yarra.

Normally based at Fitness First Richmond, he is a full-time Personal Trainer for almost a decade and has over 25 years experience in the Fitness Industry. Richard has delivered thousands of training sessions including private 1:1, semi private, small groups and large groups using his personal coaching method of Movement-based Personal Training. 

Richard’s field of expertise is Functional-Strength Conditioning, Mobility, Flexibility and Body Weight Training using elements from Gymnastics Strength for Adults. He also teaches Movement-Based Patterns, Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation Support.

A firm believer in constant self improvement, Richard has been investing in yearly training and workshops since 2015 specifically in the Ido Portal Method, a mixed technique of physical and movement exercises, developed by Israeli trainer Ido Portal. He has successfully completed 3 annual Movement Camps in Thailand from 2017 - 2019 and 2 European Movement Meetings in Lisbon, Portugal in 2018 and 2019. 

Before being a full time Personal Trainer, Richard was also an elite Ironman triathlete having successfully raced 9 x Ironman Triathlons (each race distance is a 3.8km swim, 180km bike, 42.2km run - Germany, France, Brazil and Australia) from 2006 - 2013. 

Always wanting to challenge himself, and believing that age is never a limitation to anyone (Richard turned 50 in 2019), in his private practice he is currently passionately pursuing the discipline and art of Hand Balancing in pursuit of achieving his next physical goal of mastering the one-arm handstand.

  • Strength Training, Movement,  Functional Conditioning and Rehabilitation Support: Xavier C. post hip operation in 2016 who went on to win Ironman South Africa Triathlon (3.8km swim 180km bike 42.2km run) and qualify for the Hawaiian Ironman World Championship in his age group through strength and flexibility training. 

  • Personal Transformation through weight loss: Monique M: Using a strict personal training method, Monique M shed a whopping 55kgs over 2 years, and Grace C. shed over 20kgs in less than 12 months.

  • Gymnastics Strength: Prior to training with Richard, Ultra-marathoner Silvia B had very limited upper body strength and by using Richard training program is now able to achieve multiple sets and reps of full body weight pull ups in 18 months. 

  • Flexibility & Mobility:  Prior to training with Richard, Chad H, elite body builder, had very limited flexibility and could barely touch his knees.. Within 12 months he now can successfully achieved full hands to floor stretch from standing

  • Rehabilitation training: Coached Michael G, late 60s, to regain balance and walk again within 12 months. 

  • Flexibility & Mobility: George K, 60, suffered from knee, hip, and lower back pain preventing him from living a normal life. A 6-month training program with Richard he can now go from a partial squat to a full squat to the floor with no pain. He continues to train with Richard to improve his strength and mobility.
